Jill (Yill) Ruchala joined Maury in 2024 as a 3rd Grade ELA Instructor after working most recently as a Teacher Partner and Literacy Tutor at Oyster-Adams ES, and previously as a substitute teacher in DCPS. She has taught learners of many ages in Mexico, South Korea, Myanmar, and the Czech Republic, besides teaching ESL to migrant adults in Washington, DC.
Ms. Ruchala returned to classroom teaching after many years coordinating curriculum, youth conferences, and education events as the Director of Global Classrooms, DC and as an Education Program Manager at the United Nations Foundation. She has been a co-Facilitator of Antiracism Courses for White Educators with IDEA for the past 4 years.
Originally from New York, she moved to DC in 2007 to complete a Master’s in International Education at GW, and holds a BA in Literature from Yale University. Outside of the classroom, she loves being in the woods and the ocean, volunteering at Three Part Harmony Farm, commuting by bicycle, and learning from her daughter.
