Leah Hassler joined Maury as the proud principal in July 2023. Having served as a teacher, teacher leader, and assistant principal over the course of her educational career, Principal Hassler was most recently a Resident Principal at Friendship Public Schools.
Principal Hassler is deeply committed to equitable and student-centered leadership and is driven by the steadfast belief that all students can learn. A crucial element of her work is ensuring schools center the voices of students and families. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in the idea that for schools to excel, there must be a demonstrated commitment to instructional excellence and meaningful partnerships with all school stakeholders. She absolutely loves being part of the Maury community, and feels honored to work with Maury’s talented educators and incredible students.
Principal Hassler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Furman University and a master’s degree in school leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She enjoys hiking, reading, and exploring Capitol Hill with her husband and son.
