Alia Haider joined Maury Elementary School in December 2022 as a long-term substitute teacher to cover two paternity leaves and taught Kindergarten and worked as a Math Interventionist.
Ms. Haider recently moved to Washington DC from overseas, Abu Dhabi UAE. She taught first grade there at an American Community School. This will be her 2nd year working as a full-time teacher. Before making a career switch to education, Ms. Haider worked as a financial analyst and brand manager for 4 years at Nestle in the South Asia Region. While working in Pakistan, she collaborated and volunteered with many local NGOs that provide educational opportunities to underprivileged neighborhoods. That experience inspired her to become a teacher and strive for equitable education for all students regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ms. Haider holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an MBA in Banking and Finance from a private Institute “Lahore School of Economics” in Pakistan. She finished her alternate teaching certification at Moreland University.
During her free time, she loves to cook, read, solve puzzles, and spend time with her toddler and husband.
