Kaitlin Cunningham-Gonzalez | Special Education

1st-3rd Grade

Kaitlin Cunningham Gonzalez teaches special education across the first, second, and third grade levels. She began teaching at Maury in 2021, starting her sixth year in the educational field. She inspires her students to find joy in learning through taking risks and problem-solving in project-based learning.

Mrs. Cunningham Gonzalez is originally from New York. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education and her master’s degree in Special Education from Manhattan College. After earning her master’s, she served with AmeriCorps in Miami, FL, as a 7th and 8th-grade reading teacher, where her passion for service flourished. Since AmeriCorps, she has taught in Brooklyn, NY, and Miami, FL. She earned 2018’s Rookie Teacher of the Year from George Washington Carver Elementary School and led her school to achieve its first Gold STE(A)M Designation from the Miami Dade County Public Schools.

Kaitlin and her husband moved to Washington, D.C., in July 2021. In her spare time, she loves to explore the many hiking trails and restaurants in the DMV area.
