VanNessa Duckett | 4th Grade

VanNessa Duckett joined the Maury community in 1999. Since then, she has been an elementary classroom teacher with experience ranging from early childhood to Grade 5. She took a brief leave of three years to go to Tyler Elementary to mentor new DCPS teachers and to manage a Proving What’s Possible grant.

Ms. Duckett is also the founder of Polite Piggy’s Day Camp, which provides before school and afterschool programming at Maury, Tyler Elementary School, School Within a School at Goding, and Amidon Bowen Elementary School. Ms. Duckett used her extensive classroom experience to design a program that supports the academic, enrichment, social, and emotional needs of children of all ages, from PK3 to the “Big Kids.”

Ms. Duckett is a native Washingtonian. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and her master’s degree in Education Administration from Trinity University in Washington, D.C. in February 2022, she will graduate from the A.B.L.E. program from the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University.

In her spare time, Ms. Duckett enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, and doing artsy things. Her Granny Duckett always told her, “Whatever you do, do it with joy!”
