David Friebele brings 13 years of teaching and educational leadership experience to his position as Assistant Principal of Mathematics at Maury. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and International Studies, with a Minor in Spanish from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and studied abroad at the University of Seville, Spain. In 2010, he received his Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching (MAT) from Marygrove College with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
As a teacher, Mr. Friebele began his career in a D.C. Public Schools elementary school as an AmeriCorps member through the Latin American Youth Center. He has taught middle school mathematics in several schools, and also served as a middle school team leader and social studies curriculum development leader.
Mr. Friebele has previously served as an instructional coach and assistant principal, guiding teachers to improve their professional practice. He has planned and facilitated professional development sessions on topics ranging from school culture and climate, to instruction strategies and data analysis. In 2014, he became a Master Educator with D.C. Public Schools, using his skills as a reading and math specialist to evaluate teachers in both elementary and middle school literacy and mathematics classrooms, and to serve as a coach to help teachers develop their skills.
In his free time, Mr. Friebele and his wife, an area pediatrician, like to take their beagle on long walks, bike rides, or hikes. He is a native of Hyattsville, Maryland, and loves to spend time with his family, who all still reside in the D.C. area. Most weekends, you can find Mr. Friebele playing basketball, volleyball, or hitting the gym. He also loves to cook, draw, and play the drums.
