LSAT Meeting Notes

March 19 @ 7:30 am

1) PTA Budget Update

Shannon Von Felden shared that the PTA is beginning to craft their budget for school year 2019-20. The executive committee will vote on the budget in the spring, present at the general assembly May meeting, and the general assembly will vote in June.

2) School Budget Update

Principal Payne-Chauvenet shared that the school budget has been submitted and we are waiting for approval from DCPS.  

3) Parking @ 1250 Update

Principal Payne-Chauvenet shared that the ANC 6A voted to allow for District employee parking on neighborhood streets from 7:00am to 6:00pm Monday-Friday. This will allow for Maury staff to use neighborhood street parking for work-related purposes in Maury’s school boundary (with the exception of the west side of 12th Place NE). The vote has now been submitted to DDOT.

4) Health/Environment Update

Kenyon Weaver shared that the committee is continuing to work with DGS to address issues of:

  • lead exposure in historic section of the building on 1250 Constitution Ave
  • localized air pollution at Maury Village @ Eliot-Hine
  • potential for lead in the water at the Maury Village @ Eliot from construction at Eliot-Hine

5) Maury Name Change Survey Update

Corrie Schoenberg shared that we have 175 total survey responses, including nine from alumni, 23 from neighbor/community members, 124 from current parents/guardians, 13 from staff/faculty, seven from current students, and eight from other.  LSAT teachers will work together to draft a student-friendly document to share with 4th and 5th graders regarding the different perspectives on the name change process.
