Countdown to Opening Night starts…NOW!

Hi everyone,

I have just come from an exciting and exhausting day of hanging over 450 pieces of student artwork from DC public schools all over the city! Works from students of all ages and abilities are currently on display in the baggage claim area of terminal B at Reagan National Airport. I am pleased to announce that 7 fantastic Maury artists have pieces in the show and many others will have action shots of themselves busy in the studio, mid-process, working on some of our more significant 3D work. Due to strict airport security and the risk of student work going missing, teachers were not able to submit 3D artwork to the show. This is a huge bummer to me, considering our students have sculpted out of plaster, constructed sock super heroes, made a collaborative school sculpture out of recycled bottles, built a gnarly cave, and worked with clay this year. As a result of the limitation on what we were able to submit, we were allowed to include digital images of student work and mid-process pictures of students creating their artwork, which will be displayed Thursday night at the opening reception from 6-8 pm.

If you plan to come see the show, I highly encourage you to come out this Thursday, May 8, at 6 pm. There will be an amazing “Trashion Fashion” show of student fashion designs made from recycled art materials as well as music, refreshments, the digital photography of many of our Maury artists, and a festive environment for all.

As always, the students and I appreciate your support of the arts at Maury. Please help me spread the word and congratulate our artists whose work is on display.
